I've often thought there is something so wonderfully British about a good old Boxing Day walk. After all the feasting that takes place on Christmas day, it's hard not to crave some fresh air and exercise and, with children eager to burn some of their excitable energy from the previous 24 hours, it was an easy decision for us to drive out to our local beach for a wintery walk against the shore.
I say it a lot, but I feel very lucky to be spoilt with the stunning beaches we get to enjoy here in Devon. Growing up we always had such fun exploring and playing on these shorelines and I love reliving those memories with my children.
We spent our Boxing Day afternoon hiking up and down at Instow, just by the very spot Eddy proposed to me five years ago. To be able to round off our year in this place is always special because it's so dear to our hearts and our love of the beach has definitely transferred to our boys who can't get enough.
Don't let these photos fool you though, it was absolutely FREEEZING cold and the wind was whipping our hair and turning our noses, cheeks and ears bright red! The thought of edging close to the sea sent shivers down my spine but the promise of hot chocolate afterwards gave us all that extra bit of energy to brave the weather and make the most of it!
Nothing beats clean, fresh, salty sea air in the lungs and I couldn't think of a better activity to close the chapter of 2016 and to start anew in 2017!
Here are some snaps from our wintery walk....how did you spend your Boxing Day?
Love,
